PROJECT: Crossmolina Buildings

TYPE: New build mixed use development

LOCATION: Wiltshire

SERVICE: RIBA work stages 0-7

STATUS: Complete 2010

Crossmolina Buildings is a mixed-use development on a sensitive brown-field site in the historic centre of Devizes, Wiltshire.

The development includes 790m2 of retail floor space at ground floor level. The upper three floors contain 24 apartments, most of which have private balconies or roof terraces.

The massing, scale and use of high quality materials in the design is respectful to its important setting. The upper floors are set back along the western side to provide a first floor level 'street’ from which the apartments are accessed. It incorporates soft landscaping and seating areas to encourage social interaction between residents. All units have very high levels of insulation and natural lighting/ventilation strategies. A large internal cycle store is provided for residents use.

PKA Architects provided a full architectural service working closely with the client, Local Authority and Structural Engineer throughout the design process to ensure the best possible design outcome was reached.
